Dear Mellow Walk:
I found Mellow Walk shoe boxes in my recycling bin. I asked who bought new safety shoes.....well.....my mom and dad both did for work. The school board has a contract with Marks Work Wearhouse to buy their uniforms and safety shoes there. So the compliment from my parents is that they feel like they are walking on a cloud. Easy to wear and soft over the toes...even though they are steel toes.My mom and dad say keep up the good work! Mellow Walk responds:
Hey, thank your parents for us. We are really feeling the love from our fans. There is a reason we call our safety shoes "steel toe comfort". |
About Us
Safety shoes are Mellow Walk’s bread and butter. Nearly 10 years ago, when we started to develop our very first safety shoe we knew it had to be different from what was already on the market. So, we looked inwards. We applied the knowledge we learned from making comfort and orthopedic shoes and put this thinking into safety footwear. And, while the market still leaned towards heavy duty work boots, we guessed that as the North American economy moved to light manufacturing, workers would move to light duty comfortable safety footwear. You could say that when our competition zigged, we zagged. Our strategy paid off. Today, Mellow Walk is the innovator of light duty safety shoes. Mellow Walk Timeline: 1993 In the midst of a recession, partners Gino Mellozzi and Aldo Violi launch Mellow Walk Footwear. Their tiny 2,400 sq. ft. factory in Toronto is quickly up to 50 pairs a day. 1995 It doesn’t take long for Mellow Walk to outgrow its first factory. Mellow Walk moves to a much larger facility and its workforce doubles. 1997 Mellow Walk diversifies its manufacturing seeking categories too small to be properly served by large multinational footwear companies. It is this thinking that first leads Mellow Walk to explore the orthopedic and safety shoe market. The ubiquitous “puckermocks” (styles 5069 and 5072) were Mellow Walk’s first safety shoe – hand sewn for comfort – and remain popular 10 years later. 1999 Business is booming at Mellow Walk though the traditional women’s comfort shoes business is slowly replaced by importers. This gives Mellow Walk the confidence and incentive to push forward with the development of safety shoes. The knowledge Mellow Walk learned making comfort based footwear is put to good use in the orthopedic and safety shoe markets. 2001 Company co-founder Gino Mellozzi passes away from cancer. Gino’s presence and leadership is sorely missed in the factory though his son Anthony carries on in his place. 2002 Safety shoes now comprise over 50% of Mellow Walk’s production. Mellow Walk’s sales team, represented by the Shoe Source, continues to sign up distributors across the country. 2004 Mellow Walk moves locations for a third time. This time Mellow Walk doubles the size of its factory to 24,000 square feet. 2005 Mellow Walk unveils its new line of safety shoes – Patrick (men) and Jamie (women). The shoes are an instant hit and start a new era of fashion forward design in Mellow Walk safety shoes. 2006 Mellow Walk gets serious about marketing. A new unified brand image is developed bridging the gap between Mellow Walk manufacturer and Mellow Walk brand. 2008 Mellow Walk marks its 15th Anniversary with an expanded distribution network that spans Canada, the United States and the Caribbean. Complimenting this growth is a strong range of new products including the Ultra-light Anna and Jack (launched 2007) and the soon to be released Marco and Zoe (2008).
